The 37th edition of the International Energy Workshop (IEW) was hosted by the Chalmers University of Technology, Gothenburg, Sweden on June 19-21, 2018 the Chalmers University of Technology (CHALMERS) at Gothenburg, Sweden, on June 19-21, 2018.
About Chalmers University of Technology
Chalmers University of Technology is a major technical university in
Sweden. Chalmers has developed leading research in the areas of climate
and environmental sciences, energy supply technologies and materials
science. The programme committee members are faculty within the
divisions of Physical Resource Theory and Energy Technology, Department
of Space, Earth and Environment. The Physical Resource Theory (PRT) has
an overall focus on developing knowledge for transitions to a
sustainable future with a high quality of life for the global
community. The research focuses on the interactions between technology,
society and nature. Systems perspective is used to perform
interdisciplinary research including theory development, mathematical
modelling, as well as quantitative and qualitative analysis. The
Division Energy Technology (ET) conducts research and development on
energy technologies and energy systems. Current research projects and
activities cover a wide range of issues related to energy
transformation and how to limit the environmental impact. The research
comprises experimentally based research on combustion and gasification,
process analysis as well as energy systems studies with focus on the
electricity and heating systems. Both PRT and ET aspire to pursue an
active engagement and dialogue with society, through education,
stakeholder interaction and support to decision makers.
Call for Papers - The deadline for paper submission was February 1st, 2018
Researchers and practitioners from countries around the world are
invited to submit original papers with new and innovative results on
scientific, technical and practical experience on the economics of
energy and climate systems. As is customary for the IEW, papers should
be quantitative and rigorous. A (non-exclusive) list of potential
conference topics is:
• Post Paris climate policy and implementation approaches for Nationally Determined Contributions
• Energy and climate systems with a focus on adaptation and mitigation strategies
• Economics of renewable energy technologies and options to increase system flexibility
• Modelling sustainable systems and meeting sustainable development goals
• Energy demand and supply, and energy efficiency
• Modelling from the supply chain perspective
• Socioeconomics of the energy transition
• Addressing uncertainties in the transformation of the energy system
• Feasibility of large-scale investments such as the
hydrogen economy, and bioenergy with carbon capture and storage (BECCS)
• Major transitions in transportation and new modelling approaches
Selected papers were presented and discussed in thematic and poster
sessions, circulated during the meeting, and also posted on the meeting
website.
Submission of papers
Full papers or long abstracts (minimum 1000 words) in .pdf version should have been submitted online before February 1st, 2018.
Please note that paper selection has become increasingly competitive in
recent years. Submissions that fully describe a complete analysis are
generally more likely to be accepted than long abstracts. In
particular, when submitting a long abstract, please ensure that the
study and results are sufficiently described to allow comparison with
full paper submissions. Each person can present only one selected
paper, although multiple submissions and co-authorship are allowed.
Please kindly complete one online form for each paper.
Abstracts and presentations submitted by the authors will be available online after the event. Authors will have the options to opt out and choose not to publish the abstracts or presentations at the conference website.

IEA-ETSAP meetings
Back to back with IEW 2018, the IEA-ETSAP meetings were held in
Gothenburg as follows: on Sunday June 17th and Monday June 18th the
regular ETSAP workshop; on Monday afternoon June 18th, the Executive
Committee meeting; from Tuesday to Thursday, June 19th - 21st, the
VEDA-TIMES introductory training course.
